I have a 99 with a 4.6. I started it last night to go out and smelled gas so I shut it down. This afternoon I went underneath and looked around. The line coming out of the fuel filter going towards the front is leaking out the side. It looks like a flexible line. I tried Napa but they can't get it. Is it a ford only part? Anybody know where to get it?
Also there is an all steel line on the inside of the frame also going forward that is badly rusted. Because of the rust I am not sure of the size. Maybe 3/8"??? Could it be a return line? And where can I get that one?
I'm sure it's possible to swap the damaged section of the fuel line out. Does the leaky part include the filter connector?
Yes, the hole is maybe 2 inches after the filter. My F350 had the fuel line go bad a few years ago and I used some fuel injection hose I think. I have to look for the thread to be sure. But it was a flexible line. I didn't look to see where this hose goes. It seems to make a turn towards the center of the engine. It is blue and has another line next to it that looks sort of gray.
I just finished checking around and it looks like you need a 5/16 fuel line repair kit, but the size of the connector is still in question.
The Dorman 800-054 has a 5/16 connector while the Dorman 800-055 has a 3/8 connector, each are about $17 through Wal-Mart. If you want to play it safe they also have a repair kit with both a 5/16 and a 3/8 connector in it. That one is Dorman 800-063 and it goes for about $19 through Wal-Mart.
