Wow I am pretty sure it is not something that came from the factory....looks like a filter bowl of some sort that has a bleed port and a adjustment valve???
Where in the engine compartment was it mounted?
Did the truck ever have a snow plow on it?
Or has it ever been set to run on propane?
Was the fluid like brake, hydraulic fluid or fuel smelling?
