Not to derail this. I did my first oil change at 5000. I can't seem to figure out how to reset the oil life. On the information screen it just says oil life OK, no option to reset. It's a 15' platinum. I checked the manual and don't see anything. What am I missing. I used 5w-40 Mobil Delvac ESP and MC filter. Our 14' really likes that oil too.

the book says, under system check, OIL LIFE Displays the remaining oil life. An oil change is required whenever indicated by the information display and according to the recommended maintenance schedule. USE ONLY RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS. To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change, perform the following: 1. Press and release the SETUP button to display OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW. 2. Press and hold the RESET button for two seconds and release to reset the oil life to 100%
Mine just says Oil Life "OK". No percentage. I have the same directions in the manual as you posted. This is on the screen my the instrument panel.
"OK" is all that it will show on the dash until it is about time to change. To find the percentage of life left, you have to run a vehicle health report (VHR) and then look online for the results.
Regardless of what the dash shows though, when you change your oil, the procedure to reset the intelligent oil life monitor (IOLM) to new is exactly how Sam posted above.
Isn't that just Chevron dello? That used to be where they got their base stocks.
Chevron does blend some of their oil, it depends on what part of the country you're in. And no its not the same as Delo, its blended to Deere specs and marketed as an extended oil change lube, which means it has a much stouter additive package.
To compare when I had my 2nd 6.0 and 5w-40 had become the rage I ran 3 successive runs of Rotella 5w-40. I had always run a UOA prior to the switch from the Deere and after the Rotella. The Deere lube had always been ok for extended use (OC 7,500mi.) and the Rotella was shot before 5,000 mi., wear metals were higher and viscosity had sheared down below 30 wt. threshold.
After the 3 runs of Rotella I made my switch to 10w-30 Deere and traded it in approx 140,000 mi later trouble free. So it doesn't seem as if the Rotella did any long term damage it didn't make any sense to pay more for an oil that didn't protect as well.
Trying to find the best oil will drive you nuts. I settled on Rotella 5W40 because it listed the ford spec on their Web site. I run Mobil 1 in the gas vehicles but decided against their 5W40 in my 6.7 because all I could find from them is an older Ford spec number and didn't feel right using it.
