Hey I let a buddy barrow my truck and it's now 1,500 miles away on the side of the road.White smoke, knocking and lost power. Truck has 133,000 reman engine installed at 46,000. Is it common for hydro locking to bend a rod? He sent a video and it def sounds like a rod and degas is empty. Thanks guys
Don't Try to Start the truck , yes it will bend a rod. did the EGR cooler let go? how hot did he get the Engine ?
He said never got hot. Just lost power and it shut down blowing smoke. The video he sent me sounds like a rod. Waiting on a semi to bring it back to Indy.
I was hoping a little closer to Tulsa... On the surface it sounds like it's trying to hydrolock, and that can bend rods but you may be ok if you can clear the cylinders. You will want to pull the glow plugs and crank it to clear it/them out.
That will also help you determine whether its fuel or coolant and which cylinder.

UPDATE..i finally got my truck back from TX....only took 3 weeks to get it shipped up here! The guy i let barrow it said the degas bottle was empty so i thought it was hydro-locked with coolant...not the case. It wouldn't turn over, so i pulled the glow plugs out. I kept bumping starter after ever glow plug it pulled. Finally cylinder 8 let the engine turn over and fuel came out. My question is do i go buy an injector for it and risk it still having a bent rod or just go a engine coming for it. The video my friend sent me of running and smoking it sounded like a rod was gonna come out and any time. I pulled the injector and the orings were screwed up on it. just wondering if anyone has had a rod bent with a flooded cylinder.
I can't answer your question, but I know it can bend them. I would make sure the cylinder is clear, and replace the injector with an OEM reman. It's worth a 250.00 try vs 10k. JMO
