So I started in on tearing out the T5 and was planning on replacing the T/O bearing and inspecting everything else. I noticed this right away when the tranny started to come out:
It might be hard to see but where the shaft sits in the pilot bushing it was bone dry and a film built up on it (my bad!). This matched up with my initial assessment of the noise being dry metal running around dry metal. I pressed on with the T/O replacemenet anyway..... well I did for a while, but then decided to try to lube it up and stick it back in to see what happens. I'm happy to say that there is no more noise (for now.....) it may return, but it's gone for now. I am still facing a T/O alignment issue because If I adjust the pedal to where it doesn't touch the T/O bearing I get a little grind going into 2nd if I don't take it slow. So I think the 4-speed retainer may be giving me issues. I'll have to continue to work on it, but I'm short on time at the moment. Thanks for your help and inputs fellas!
