I have a 89 f150. When warm I believe it has some spark knock. I have tried seafoam and It didnt really help. 91 octane helped slightly. I have not checked the timing yet, but it doesn't idle high or anything like the timing is to high. Also it kind of surges at idle sometimes, and it used to die when first started until I switches
I certainly wouldn't think of high idle being a symptom of too much spark advance. Knock is definitely a symptom. If it really is preignition ("knock"), then you've got too much spark advance given everything else (fuel octane, compression ratio, carbon deposits, etc)
Tried playing with the timing and by the time it helped it was was to doggy to be drivable, so I put the timing back and pulled codes and got code 23 for tps? Can a tps cause spark knock?

Since the timing is not solving it, im going to run a bottle of techron fuel system cleaner through it, ive read good stuff about it.

It's possible......the PCM relies on the TPS for accurate throttle position feedback. If the output is low it may not pull enough timing when it sees the value and rate of change.
Well it all but just stopped the spark knock. I put techron in the tank and unplugged the egr. I have a check engine light now, but thats better than burnt pistons haha
