First of all I have a 2004 f-350 92K miles with a stock 6.0 - EGR delete and new oil cooler are the only updates.
Two weeks ago I had an issue pop up. when I tried to start from a dead stop there was no acceleration, it would idle ok but when i pressed on the peddle, NOTHING! I called the local diesel guru, he recommended I change the fuel filters. After I did this there was a tremendous improvement in performance.
After a few days of normal driving I noticed a subtle reduction in throttle response. Today I noticed a slight lag when accelerating which lasted about 3 miles until there is once again no acceleration. It will start normally and idle is a little rough, but will not accelerate even in park the engine is extremely slow to accelerate.
I have a gut feeling my fuel pump is at fault for this, any ideas will be greatly appreciated!
fuel pump should run about 20 seconds after you turn the key. You could remove the cap to the upper filter and watch the fuel bowl fill. Have someone help and be ready to clean up a mess.
ok, I'm removing the HFCM to replace the fuel pump. I've disconnected the engine supply and return lines, and the supply line from the tank. My problem is with the tank return line, I'm about to loose my mind on that one! Can someone give me a clue as to where and how I'm supposed to pinch the connector to get it to release?
Blow fitting off with an airgun, hit it with some penetrating oil and let it sit a minute. Blow it off again and make sure theres no small pieces of gravel stuck in there. Give it another shot penetrating oil and try to wiggle the clip around. Had the same happen to me a few times.
FINALLY!!! After milking this job for two days, the pump is replaced and truck is running normal now!
DSMMH-I didn't have the 2285 (or any other) ICP codes popping
dieselblogging- tried your trick, and the line released, THANKS!
WatsonR- initially it would take about 14 seconds for the pump to fill the secondary bowl, now it is more like 3. unfortunately it took about a second too long for the wife to turn off the key. good thing I hadn't cleaned up the kitty litter yet.
