Fuel system issue

A couple of days ago I was driving back from picking up about 4,000 pounds of concrete in my truck bed. I had an 1/8 tank at the beginning of the trip about a total of ten miles all together. On my way back after about 6 miles my fuel was pretty low and I was not able to accelerate. With the pedal all the way down it would only drive about 5 miles an hour. I pulled off the road immediately thinking that I may have ran it out of fuel. I put about three more gallons in and cycled the pump a few times. It started but barely like it was about to die, I stepped on he accelerator to keep it running. At about 2k rpms it ran for about a minute or two. Then it went back to idle even with the accelerator down and started running real choppy.

I got it towed home thinking that it might have something more serious wrong with it. Being new to owning diesels I had no idea that you are supposed to change the fuel filter every 10k miles or so. The first thing I did was went and got a new fuel filter. Cycled the engine again and started real choppy, stepped on the accelerator and ran it at about 2k rpms. It ran fine at 2k then it started to act like it was not getting any fuel.

It's a completely stock 2001 f350. No chip or programmer, any hutch mods or any other type of mod. Fuel pump runs as supposed to. It's getting fuel to the fuel bowl.

Any ideas where to start looking for a cause?

If you want a quick fix, you can blow air back into the tank.

Disconnect a fuel hose after the pump, and use a compressor with the regulator dialed down and blow the junk off the screens. That will get you by. If that fixes it the truck is derivable and you know what the problem was. Then just put it on your to-do list.

If you're gonna blow air back into your tank, as Trey said, dial it down... A little bit will work fine.
