HELP
2000 F350 7.3 : Lately my truck has been actin up. I let it warm up and start down the road, not even 1/4 mile and it starts chokeing up and dies. When I try to give it throttle it blows out white smoke and tries to die again. It toke awhile to start this last time after pulling on the side of the road. What is going on. My guess would be the fuel pump, but their seems to be more to it than that, i.e. sensors or such. Anyone had this problem or know how to fix it? Called my local shop, and they just said "fuel pump". I dont want to play the "hit and miss" game if I don't have to. Thanks.

First guess is that your engine is starving for fuel. When was your filter changed last? Is your fuel pump louder than normal?
Does your engine idle roughly? If so, try this:
Turn the key on without starting the engine and listen for your fuel pump to time out and then turn the key off. Do this 4-5 more times while trying to start the engine at the end of the last cycle. Does your engine fire right up and run smooth for a minute or so and then start idling rough again?

Go ahead and kick me in the azz. Been more than .......2 years since replacing the fuel filter, going to do that in the mornin. Yep, idles fine, until I drive for a couple seconds, then chokes out. After a few cranks, stepping on the gas, it fires up.....when it reaches a good idle its fine, until i give it throttle again.
