2010 F150 evap temp. sensor

I sent my 2010 F150Screw 4x4 to figure out why A/C would not cool and was told the evap temp. sensor was bad,and told it was "non-replaceable"and I would need a new HVAC box from Ford installed to get my a/c working to the tune of $1493.13 (oh and I should get my h/core changed since they would have the dash out anyway)only charge me for core. Any advice or help would be appreciated. is this the only option for fixing a/c, thanks Randall

The factory service manual states:

The evaporator temperature sensor is not available as a separate component. To install a new evaporator temperature sensor, a new heater core and evaporator core housing must be installed
Now, that was published in 2012, perhaps things have changed since then. It appears that the sensor is individually replaceable starting in the 2011 MY. Unless there is an aftermarket alternative (you'd likely have to have the work done elsewhere) or there is a new replacement sensor, the dealer's assessment is correct.
