I had to look it up ... Gremlin came first, 1970-78. Pacer was 1975-80. I always thought it looked like something from The Jetsons...
As noted here, neither was a remarkable vehicle other than their unique and easily recognized design. I recall our Gremlin would not stay in gear, and despite a few trips to the AMC service department, mom and sis had to drive with their right hand on the stick.
And you must admit - this period ad is hilarious....

This is the Pacer 'fish bowl' 2 door, there was also a 'fish bowl' 2 door wagon version available.
