Started right up, put new voltage regulator and battery in. Voltage at coil with engine running is 10.85 How big of resistor will I need to bring it down to 9 volts?

Are you measuring the 10.85 volts across the coil or is the negative meter lead on the battery post negative and the positive meter lead on the coil positive.
Also, try another voltage check, KEY ON engine not running, coil positive and battery terminal negative.
This 10.85 was coil + and ground, engine running, with battery - and coil + and engine running it was 10.65. Engine not running, key on and coil + and battery - is 6.55

While your voltage readings aren't exactly what I was expecting I would still put it in the safe zone, I would just run it as is.
As an added tip I would mount the DS2 IGN module with a few washer between the plastic inner fender and the IGN module box. This will allow air flow under the box and aid with cooling the IGN module.
