I just got a 95 F150 Eddie Bauer. 5.8L, Automatic. Nice truck.
I've encountered a few problems with it. Nothing too major so far. This one has me stumped.
At light throttle (i.e. taking off from a stop), there is a hesitation. It's seeming like the truck wants to stall out. I have noticed this happening before and after it warms up.
When I take off and give it a little extra throttle, it doesn't stumble.
I changed the fuel filter today (needed to be done), and it hasn't changed anything.
I have noticed an exhaust leak growing steadily worse by the day. It sounds like its coming from the passenger side manifold.
No CEL, and the truck starts right up every time.
Ideas?
My theories are as follows: Plugs and wires, EGR, transmission, catalytic converter.
I had to change the pass. man. on mine twice. The original one broke all the way through and the replacement was already cracked{ from JY}. Ended up getting some shorty headers from a friend. They work good.
I put on JBA shorty headers. No problems!
I noticed that there is a slight stumble under very light acceleration right after I put in a clean K&N air filter. I didn't notice this with the stock air filter in place.
I feel like the issue has something to do with air injection toying with a sensor. I can't go too far into detail without sounding like an ***. Just thought I would get your post back on track.
If I replace the evr and it does not solve my problem, then what would you recommend?
You have already narrowed it down to vacuum present at the EGR valve when there is not supposed to be any. Pull the electrical connector to the EVR, check if there is any vacuum at the EGR at idle again. If there is, then you for sure have a leaking EVR.
If no vacuum with the electrical connector removed then you have the computer modulating the EVR when it is not supposed to..so bad computer or some moron has wired a continuous ground to the EVR (the computer does this when it is programmed to do it).
Be aware you will probably trigger a Check Engine Light and code by pulling the electrical connector. Not a big issue, just a heads up to not panic.
