Hey guys, I hope you can give me something new to try to help with lost throttle response. I have a 2002 F-150 with a 4.6L. Installed under the hood are:
-Airaid throttle body spacer
-K&N filter in the stock air box
-3 chamber Flowmaster exhaust with a 2-1/2" pipe
-Tornado (I know, I know....piece of crap)
I've heard from some folks that their trucks couldn't get out of their own way with a Flowmaster on them. Does anyone else share this same view? I tried uninstalling all of the above items except for the exhaust and no luck...it's still a dog out of the hole. I don't know what gearing it has but other trucks that I have driven are still WAY more responsive than mine. I've tried cleaning the Mass Air Flow Sensor and that didn't help and there isn't anything clogging any air ports on the intake. I'm lost at this point. Someone suggested to me just today that maybe I could have a bad or dirty fuel injector. Could that be it? I need some help to fix it or I'm going to drive this thing over a cliff and claim it stolen.
Well, I'll chime in first and say, just make sure you're not expecting too much. After all it is a truck, and ford trucks are HEAVY. Plus, it's a 4.6L. The other negatives I'll throw in are some of the mods you have IMO, do not give you a "seat of the pants" noticeable boost in take off. I also have a K&N and a cat back system. I've heard more times than I can count how useless a TB spacer is. SOoo, that being said:
If it IS in fact slower than it should be...maybe change the fuel filter if that hasn't been done in a while. Also, what gearing do you have in your rear? If it is a 3.55(like mine) it is going to be a little wimpier than a 4.10. Maybe an overall tune up(plugs and all) is a good start. After all that, if it still isn't slamming you back in your seat enough, I would recommend a Mustang! :-)

Thanks for the tip about the fuel filter. I haven't heard anything good or bad about throttle body spacers but it did seem like a waste of money. I didn't expect to get whiplash or for the truck to pull a wheelie but I did expect some gain from the mods I made but it seems like I lost performance instead of gaining it. Any other possible tips if the fuel filter doesn't do the trick?
I own a 2000 skab with a 4.6L and the 3,55 gears. Off the line it is a little sluggish but when it hits about 3,000 RPM it takes off. I am in the process of "tweaking" things to get a little better response. One of the things I did was clean around butterfly valve in the throttle body with a good cleaner.
