So standing on the Passenger side grab the belt and pull towards you , this should lock the kick stand in place once you install the belt do the same to release the kick,( just make sure your hand's are not in the way of the pulley.
The kickstand is spring loaded to unlock. The easiest way I found to lock it is to have someone else do it from below with a long ratchet extension or random bar of steel, while I pull up like crazy on the belt.
But really, you don't need to lock it - I regret spending time trying when I changed my belt. Just pull up by the alternator and get the belt off of the alt. Then change the belt, and pull up hard on the new one and slip it over the alternator.
Yes, yes it is. I've past my frustration point with that system. My "kick stand" was lost somewhere in its life and at my age pulling on the fan belt to move that tensioner ain't happening.
I had read where some pull the front alternator bolt, then back off the rear to let the layover of the alt take the tension off the belt as the front drops down. I do that now and when putting the alt back on I place the belt on the pulley and the alt angled onto its mounting location. Then I take an alignment pry bar placed in one of the back holes and lever it back into place and install two bolts before releasing the pry bar. Works for me so far. Those who are weight advantaged, and I guess I fall into that category, could just put there weight on the back of the alt to move it horizontal.
Find cheezit picture it's best thing going easy worth a 1000 words you guys won't fight it again
You have to pull the belt far enough to get the kickstand to engauge and you have to flip the kickstand in by hand then let off pressure on belt to pinch the kickstand in place
When ready to tension the belt make sure lined up on all pulley and pull belt to release the kickstand it will flip out on its own once you pull on belt
I was able to do the kick-stand by using a long screwdriver. Once I pulled the belt back with two hands, just used the left to hold and the right to move the stand. Buddy of mine fought that belt for two hours on his alternator change-out. I did it in 15 minutes with the stand, have a friend or even do it in the parking lot at the parts store, someone will help if you ask.
