I've got a 2000 ranger 3.0 auto 2wd. The tranny is making horrible noises on the highway now and is original as far as I know with 257k miles on the truck.
I found a jasper transmission out of a 96 2wd 3.0 for a great buy but can't find definitive answer as to whether or not they will interchange?
I'm going to snag the other tranny up next couple days if they will swap so I appreciate any help!
According to the TRS link below both Rangers should have the same transmission: 4R44E. If able, you would be wise to compare the electrical connectors, overall length, bellhousing bolt patterns and whatever else you can. In theory though there seems to be a good chance they can be swapped.
I had saw that link and that's what made me think it would swap, I'm going to check it out in person and see if I can find any differences if not I'm going to swap it and see.
Mine is still working actually but makes a horrible howling noise randomly when you step on the throttle to hard!
Go to hollanderparts.com and plug in the year/make /model. The results will give you what interchanges and what's close to you, if you also provide a zip code. Things like transmissions can interchange across models so you'll find donor vehicles like Explorers, etc. in the results.
I found a broken vacuum line under the hood from when I swapped O2 sensors out on Monday and it's driven perfect ever since with no strange shifting or noises so I'm not going to worry about replacing it now. Thanks for the input though!
