I have a 99.5 with 400,000. on the engine. It has been a great truck but it is time for the some TLC. I have a little leak on the radiator and the water pump and would like to replace it. There is such a big difference in price depending on who you call. Can someone recommend a brand or a place to purchase? Im just looking for stock. Any help would be very much appreciated.
I have a 13 yr old that grew up sitting on my lap as we drove the dirt roads around the house and on the ranch. He has been driving this truck by himself (on the ranch) as soon as he was able to reach the pedals, around 8 or 9. His happiest day will be when he gets his drivers license and can drive the truck to school. So I have a lot of work ahead of me on this truck. I have been a member for a long time and really appreciate the wealth of knowledge that is on this site.
I was always a fan of Bosch new, not rebuilt water pumps. They were high quality and made in the USA. When I replaced the one in my truck recently, I discovered they are now made in China and look like it.
My water pump replacement ended up requiring a new radiator as well due to the plastic being so old and brittle it developed a crack. On short notice, the in stock replacement from Oreilly's is what I went with. A little thinner than the stock radiator but it seems to be working fine for the last couple of months. Of course summer isn't here yet.
Not much help I know, but at least some insight before you spend the money.
For the water pump, I'd go with new instead of rebuilt, even though there's not a whole lot in there to rebuild. Rock Auto usually has some good prices if you don't mind waiting on shipping.
I don't know if this will apply to our trucks, but I bought a new radiator for one of my old cars from NAPA some time ago and it was much better quality than the OEM Ford was. All metal tanks and even had a well placed vent port to aid filling.
I had it changed out today. I had been getting prices on a new radiator any where from $180. to $280. Why s Napa so expensive?. Went to a local radiator shop and got a new one installed for $220.00 plus antifreeze. Not a bad price and saved me some time.
