Easy to install 3rd brake light ideas, if you are wired for a 4 prong trailer plug you are set for this. If not get the plug and play inline trailer wiring kit.
I installed a brakelight/cargo light on my 79 from a 94-96 ford pickup. I have seen the super duty lights installed too which might fit better and offer more aftermarket dress up options. The 94-96 light located in the right spot will fit the cab contour just right. I actually used two lights. I dremeled the light sockets off one so I could find the right location to fit the contour of the cab and mark the screw holes. I measured the opening on an actual 94-96 cab at the junkyard and transfered to my cab for cutting. Used dremel cutting wheels for the hole.
Got a factory cargo light harness and switch which plugs into the main harness behind the instrument cluster. Then ran a brakelight wire tied into the brake light switch wiring and to the light. the cargo light switch has a round hole in the sheet metal behind it-used a step drill bit. Then used self tapping screws to mount it.
i got a 73 so i have the long skinny cargo light, do yall think i could either put a red bulb and rewire it or could i put a 94 brake light over the existing hole?
To make the cargo light also function as a 3rd brake light, you would need to change the 1156 single element socket out of the housing for an 1157 dual element socket and then install a red/white switch back LED into the cargo light housing and wire the added brake light circuit.
3rd brake light on my 1969 F100 Ranger using the stock cargo light housing.
and if i just want the brake light all i would have to do is basicly put a red bulb then wire into the brake wire? and my socket has to prongs where the bulb goes is this coorect for this year?
