Hi everyone. i have a ford diesel 7.3 f250 .2000 and i lost my over drive. i took the column apart and fixed the frayed wires in my shifter handle. and still no over drive.and can tell when driving it when you push the over drive cut off button it seems to have compression . so i know its working right? so my questions are. 1= what other easy things for me to check.other fuses. ? seleniods ? wiring? and what tranny do i have in my pickup?? any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks..
What is it doing that makes you think you lost overdrive? The best thing for you to do is to get it scanned for stored codes. If the trans really has lost overdrive there will be codes stored that will give a good place to start diagnosing what's wrong. The places the read codes free CANNOT read these codes. You need a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.
im back. finally got it in. new shifter in with over drive button. and the mech put a new over drive solenoid in and nothing. says it reads like its suppose to go into over drive.but nothing. tanny fluid is all clean. filter clean.no pieces in it. looks like he just did the filter he said. so. with no other thing that went wrong. just wouldnt shift one nite.and worked perfectly driving into town.but wouldnt hit over drive coming back. not sure how i can lose my tranny with out things floating in the fluid.lol the codes he told me about was just going into the tranny was good. and nothing about the tranny.they sell browns trannies i think it is. is that a good tranny? any help would be appreciated thanks. lolohart
If you are going to get any help, you are going to have to do a lot better job of explaining what has been checked and what has been done. Your post is mostly a lot of babbling and isn't clear at all. Get the codes read by someone who has the equipment to read transmission codes. Don't try to tell me there are no codes. If you have no overdrive, there is a code stored. Find someone who knows how to retrieve it and post what is there. Then you might get some help.
the mech put a new over drive solenoid in and nothing.
There is no overdrive solenoid. There are two shift solenoids. Both of them together control all four gears, but neither one is the overdrive solenoid.

The transmission is not required to fail to your specifications. I've seen many transmissions fail without putting a bunch of junk in the fluid. It's not a requirement.
If you got the codes read you might get some real help. Right now about all I can tell is that something might not be right.
