It is just hard for me to justify the cost of a redhead, when I could replace a box store box twice for the cost of a redhead. Especially when it seems the experience of both seem to be "ok".
I hear you Andy and the kicker is most auto parts boxes come with a lifetime warranty...
My AcDelco unit that I picked up from a local AcDelco distributor for my Jeep TJ has done well for the past two months. Someone should try one of these units on an Excursion and see what you think
I got my Redhead because of all the hype about how great they are so I thought my truck would steer like brand new fact is it steered the same as the rock auto box. Maybe the Redhead will stay tighter over a longer time than the auto store boxes , time will tell I guess...

"I'm going to refund you the extra shipping, but there was a misunderstanding. We refund the cost of shipping the way that we ship it in a Large Flat Rate box, which is $20, and we wouldn't have said that we would pay for you to ship your core in.
I'll get the rest refunded today."
I feel this is proper and I sincerely appreciate them for stepping up.

I am pretty sure a box store unit would be fine. But, I read the only review of the thing at autozone and it says it only lasted 500 miles. One of the few reviews at advanced isn't so great either, but could be an idiot with other problems. Haven't checked with the dealer yet to see what they have/charge. Might go that route if it's somewhere closer to the $140 at the box stores than the $350 redhead.
I'm in the spline change year, so more to figure out. Sounds like they improved the stock box when they went to the 36 spline. If the 32 spline is less stout, maybe worth getting the redhead upgrades??

I feel those types of "reviews" really only get a reply when someone is upset about something and want to show it. Most times if someone installs something and it works they forget about it and just go on happy.
If I had the less spline box personally I would look for a new pitman arm along with the newer 36 spline box. I believe the tie rod end of both pitman arms are the same?

I was quoted around 600.00 for Ford. Figured for almost the same price I would go with Redhead. With shipping etc...I am at about 650 into it. I had the shop do some other minor things while it was in there so ran up the bill a little.
After reviewing the Redhead site, there seems to be a steering box difference between 04 and 05 and in having a 2005 Ex, was it truly using an 05 steering box or an 04?
I know many parts on our trucks match against 99-04 superdutys but what about this case?
