I don't know that Retailer but I certainly would rather go to the source on something that had such a high core charge, just in case something wasn't right or didn't get back there, etc. Also even with free shipping it doesn't save much of any money.

fwiw, they posted my core credit back within a week or so of me sending my old one in.

Hopefully, for the OP's intent of the thread, other box store buyers can give more feedback on their experiences.

The super duties? It's closer to 1-1?

Think of a bicycle in high gear vs the lowest. Am I backwards on this?
The 17:1 steering ratio is quicker. The Super Duty has the slower ratio. You are not backwards

The Super Duty steering is even slower than the Excursions.

Looks like we've discussed this already awhile back : https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11583782

Yes, yes, and yes. lol

I read your original post to fast and it looked like you mentioned the superduty having the 17:1 ratio, so naturally that is why I posted what I did.

I want the quicker EXCURSION ratio! Honestly I would like to have it even quicker than that, maybe a 15:1!

Also while on that subject I see redhead just lists the box as superduty and excursion in which I guess you get what you get?

I would assume the same could be said for the box store boxes as well then?

I just called Redhead. Joel said all superduty from 01-04 and 01-05 Ex share the same ratio at 18-1.

I questioned it and he put me on hold for a couple minutes and came back and confirmed it. He also said there were some minor differences with the boxes but not the ratio.

Take it for what it's worth.

I'm happy with mine, but initially I was thinking it was still a little sloppy, after I greased the lower ball joints it's much better. In my head I was blaming the sticking joints for play in the box

I would buy from them again if I needed one for a different application.

We have a gearbox in stock for your '05 Excursion. The price is $356 exchange.

There's only one ratio in this gearbox for the F-250, F-350, and Excursions . Anything else has been converted. The F-150s would have a different ratio.

Thanks,

But then mentioned "order all ratio" being higher...

This is interesting. I looked up part numbers on the Ford Parts website and found that the 2002-2005 Excursions have the same part number as the 2002-2004 Super Duty. The 2000-2002 Excursions and Super Duties have a different part number however.

Some might not care that the ratio moves up slightly to an 18:1, but some might. This is rather confusing

I know the early 99-00's have a smaller/less splines output shaft.

This link lists a 32 and a 36 tooth output shaft for the 2WD and only a 36 tooth output shaft for the 4WD. Is that what you're thinking of?

Could be. I just remember the earlier ones are less spline the the later ones. I just know I need the "normal one".

I opened up a can of worms

Like you, snow, I would want to keep the original, quicker ratio of the Excursion and knowing that a replacement box would not have the same ratio would annoy me to no end.
