Power Stop brake kits


Ok time to do the rear brakes. I know my drive side rear caliper is shot it’sbeen rebuilt/worked on to many time. So I'm thinking about going with thekit from Power Stop(link below). I mainly drive HW miles about 1000 aweek. I do pull a horse trailer on weekends. Will this work? <o></o>

Absolutely, I have EBC brakes on my truck and love them, ford calipers always seize up and destroy the pads, rotors ect. Do it once and do it right, you wont be sorry. It's just the slides that get seized and with heat and elbow grease you can get them to go, but if you can swing it with the price do it. You will not be sorry.

Here is my opinion on it.

I replaced my fronts with PowerStop Calipers, pads and rotors and have been extremely happy with them. Before that I had Hawk Extreme duty pads on the stock brakes and they were ridiculously dusty pads. Keep in mind the PowerStop calipers are 'upgraded' Ford OEM calipers (you'll see the ford stamp on them).

I just replaced my rear brakes about a month ago because they were still the rear factory ones (the mechanic was surprised to see 13 year old brakes still going). I decided against spending an arm an a leg on the rears and went with Napa and have been extremely happy.

Keep in mind that using the right lubricant on your slide pins is important. I can't tell you the amount of times I've seen someone do their own brakes and use white lithium grease or similar on their slide pins.

tl;dr - Powerstop great for fronts, you may not want to spend as much on the rear. Note that they are still Ford calipers.

thanks for the feedback for 250 it's a small price to pay , when I will have my daughter in the truck would send ten times to make sure it safe. Over the last 15 years I tried almost every brand of pads

I installed the Crown Performance (5 piece) Braided SS brake line kit and Power Stop KC1906A-36 brake kit front/rear (calipers, rotors, pads) last Oct and have not had any problems. Power Stop doesn't have the rear brake shoes, so I got Raybestos 771PG for those.

If you are going to be that deep in there, you might as well upgrade everything.

Also I haven't seen very much brake dust at all. And they look really good.

1906 vs. 1894

Why did you choose the 1906 kit instead of the 1894 kit? I was about to order the 1894 kit because it says that it is for antilock in all 4 wheels. Can I get away with the 1906 kit?

Do you know what the "A" in the part number stands for? I only see a difference in price?

In addition to not having any problems, would you say that this kit provides superior braking performance over the stock brakes?

The 1894 kit does not include the calipers. The 1906 kit has 4 calipers, 4 rotors and 4 sets of brake pads. So it basically has almost everything you need in one kit.

Except the rear emergency brake shoes and I also got a rear brake hardware kit and new fluid. So when I did mine I had an entirely new braking system.

I didn't do any before/after performance testing and I'm not out there setting the land speed record so for me they work great. I do tow a lot so I wanted something that looks great and has some level of performance that is greater than stock. The added benefit was the reduction in brake dust.

I just checked my brakes yesterday and they still look great, no rust, no leaks, no problems....

The only other issue is the money. I spent about $1000 in parts and labor to have them all installed. But you can just do the rear and then do the fronts later if that is an issue.

I can't remember what the A stands for. Just make sure you read the description carefully for the item that is being sold to ensure that you get what you want. Also shop around as there was a wide variety of prices for the same pieces out there on the net.

If you order the kit from Summit, don't order the 4 wheel kit, order the front kit and then the back kit. If you order the 4 wheel kit they charge you an extra freight charge, the front or rear kit only is free shipping.

I have the four wheel kit but didn't use their calipers. They are just rebuilt stockers with pretty color on them. If you need calipers they are fine, but mine were still good. I like my brakes so far. I have over 200k miles of experience with powerstops on our old explorer and mountaineer. I just installed a four wheel powerstop kit on a friends 07 ram yesterday. Got it from amazon for no shipping cost. This was the 6th full powerstop kit i have installed and everyone has been happy with them. Hard to beat them for the money.

Are you happy with the braided lines?

Do you have any spring mods done, if so what mods and what length hose did you order

Yes the Crown Performance SS Braided lines are nice. I have a stock height EX but at some point I plan to add air bags to all 4 wheels, so when I ordered the lines I asked for +2 inches. I probably didn't need that much, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

Another thing I added was the SS Braided vacuum tubes from Dieselsite. They are very easy to install and they match the brake lines as well.

I shouldn't ever have to worry about any of these lines as long as I live.

I had a rear line blow I will be doing these along with the repair and be done with it

I got the whole set for 177 and some change

Correct, you have to call them. They should make that an option but what they told me was that most of their customers only wanted the two front ones and the one that goes from the frame to the rear end when they raise their vehicles.
