Over the last couple of weeks I am getting some tapping noises in the front ends when I go over some bumps, but not all on the passengers side front. Other times, lets say I am backing out of the garage and the right wheel comes down first then the left, a noise will happen in the left hand side.
I took it in to a local garage and either they did not want to really look into it or did not hear these noises but they claim things are find.
Looking for suggestions from you more knowledgeable folk on what I can start to look for? Would it be something with the front sway bar?
Take it to an alignment shop, they are well versed in checking ball joints and control arm bushings, chances are the sound you are hearing is the ball joints popping from lack of lubrication, the factory ball joints might not hasve zerk fittings the ball joint is just dry, if it worn out you will want to replace both upper and lower ball joints on both sides, the parts are not expensive but the labor cost will be substantial unless you DIY with a rented, borrowed or bought ball joint press..
This could be as simple as the stock front sway bar bushings having failed or a shock absorber mount worked loose.
Crawl under the front, grab each side of the sway bar where it stabs through the I-Beam, give it a shake. If one or both are bad time to install new urethane bushings.
Same with the shocks---check for one of the mounting nuts having worked loose.
Went under the van to check the sway bar bushings and both the bushings on the frame and I-beam side look ok. I did a pry bar test and they looked good.
Need to look and see how I go about testing ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.
