Hey guys I just changed my thermostat about 2 weeks ago. The operating temp was only getting around 177-180. I put a stant in there thinking it would be better than a Motorcraft but cheaper than a mits. So now my operating temp is 190.4 consistently and my Eot is consistently @200-203. My question is if I put a mist. Thermostat in and say it runs 200 will my oil temp increase to 210-212?. My delta runs between 10 and 11 right now.I have back flushed and also have Egr cooler delete. I'm trying to figure out if my delta number is because I'm not at the 200 operating temp or because I have a partially clogged oil cooler. Coolant is super clean no residue is the tank cap has been replaced. No chalky mess any where.
Are you taking these temp readings full warmed up at 65mph on flat ground after 8-10 miles steady? If not your reasons don't mean a thing. If you are at the above specs. I'd say yes the cooler is plugging up. Since your egr cooler is deleted you are not at a critical state yet. Start saving and gathering parts.
If you put in the 200* Mishi, your EOT will rise that much, you bet. Your EGR deleted and temps not that critical for you now, but do watch them and don't let it get to far apart. The only real concern now is 253* EOT defuel point.

Ok Thanks.... This fall I plan on doing the oil cooler and maybe studs. I'm just wanting to get a good base line. I did notice it cools down almost immediately when slowing down to take an exit. It cools down to within 4-5 degrees of the ECT.
If your going to stud it, then yes, do the cooler as well. I wouldn't be overly concerned at your spread, just keep an eye on it and the 253* is really what to watch for. That would indicate a plugged cooler, at a 20-25 spread I'd be seriously thinking of a cooler.

Mine has been doing the same thing the last 2 years....EOT runs about 11-13 higher than ECT on the highway. By the time I get to the bottom of the exit ramp, I'm between 4-6 degrees higher. BUT... I'm in no hurry to replace the oil cooler in it's current condition.
Every truck is different. Some people replace an oil cooler and see 1-2 degree difference, then someone else replaces the oil cooler and sees 6-8.
Great that's all I needed to hear :-). I will be pulling a 9000lb Travel Trailer in about a month and just getting everything tied up before camping season.
