Replacing Tranny 2007
I had a tranny rebuilt for one of my fleet vans last year more or less the same tranny as the one in my F150. Cost with flush and fluid was $3400 out the door.
So now I'm having issues with my 2007 xlt 4x4 f150 with 141,000 miles. Fluid filter changes did not cure, so it looks liek I'm headed toward a rebuild.
This truck has one more year of heavy use about 25,000 miles then I'll be parking it in the garage at the lake place and it will likely only see about 7000 miles a year of use as I'm planning a 2016 f150.
I have sourced a couple of transmissions from trusted vendors. Price $1700-$2000.
I'm very mechanical. I've rebuild a few car engines and boat engines, clutch replacements on a ram50 pick up I had, did my fun spark plus on my f150 and my brothers. Brakes, on and on.
So with all that background, I understand the tranny weighs about 200 pounds or so. Other than that, can this be a east task for a day project?
With taxes etc, I see saving about $1500 doing this myself.
Any concerns, comments?
Thanks in advance.
