Lightbulb tranny ???????????

was wondering if a tranny flush is a good idea for a '99 4X4 superduty with 98k miles. The truck has never had its tranny serviced or had any transmission problems. I was told a flush at this stage would probably just break loose some sludge and gunk that would cause me many headaches down the road. Any advice or exprience on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Jeff

get it done. I got mine done @ 150K..... I would also drop the pan, and get the magent cleaned up, new filter, and Sonnax/Tricumulator kit. Mobile 1 sythetic fluid, and step on it.

I changed out my fluid right at 100,000 miles with synthetic and haven't looked back since. Now have 135,000 and it still pulling great!!!

Go for it!!!

well flushing isn't good on a tranny i was always taught. one reason is all the dirt is flushed troughtout the tranny, but doesn't mean it is all removed. i toke and changed my filter and oil but i run conventional oil in the tranny. However in the front end(dana60) i run mobil one 75-90, in the transfer case I run mobil one atf, and in the rearend i run 75-140 with friction modifier

Flushing is always good, but only after you drop the pan, clean the pan, Magnet, and install a new filter.

I don't know why you wouldn't want to flush it. I'd rather flush it and get dirt out than leave it with the dirt and old oil in there thinking that it's better than a clean tranny with fresh oil. That doesn't make sense to me.

when flushing must trannys they flush it by reversing the flow of the tranny which moves all the dirt throughout the tranny is it all removed? You'll never now unless you do a total tare down. that is why it is better insurance like i stated to change the filter and oil. It doesn't flush every but the new filter will and should collect mostly everything bad. With regular maintence it should last forever.

dt444e: That is not how you flush a tranny!! If it's the way someone has done yours they did it wrong!! Trannys are flushed by droping the pan Cleaning the pan and new filter!! Reinstalling the pan putting fluid back into the tranny to the full point!! Then they way mine was done the tranny tech used a machine to basicly pump fluid into the tranny at the same rate as it took it out at the cold side of the Tranny cooler!! It took 30 quarts at $6.00 a quart!! It don't completely exchange the fluid but it gets 90%!!
