i just learned my '94 F-150 302 has a 4R70W trans code U is there any help for it? About how much does replacement or rebuilding it cost? What are the weak points that commonly fail in a 4R70W ? I'd prolly be better off just ditching the 4R70W & getting a long enuff driveshaft to hook to the motor wouldn't i ?

i wouldn't write off your tranny yet...i've put 35000 REALLY HARD miles on my 4r70w theres a total of 145000 miles on my tranny and it still is perfoming flawlessly...when i changed the tranny fluid after 15000 miles it was clear as when it went in. So i wouldn't worry till ya find a way to make it die.

You want a bullet proof 4R70W-- read the write up at baumann engineering's website. Gives prices and the history too.

I give the 4R70W credit. I've never owned the 4R100, but all I've heard was how much more durable the 4R100 is than the 70W. If this tranny can withstand my needs, I'd recommend it to any person looking for a truck with medium duty towing needs (6000-7000 pounds or so).

I would get in touch with Gregg Evans at Trans Tech. Gregg is the MAN when it comes to Ford trannys. He sells a rebuilt 4R70W, for I believe $2400.00. He guts it and rebuilds from the ground up with premium components. Gregg also makes valve bodies that a lot of folks are raving about. I have honestly not read a single negative post about his products or his customer service. One smart dude and a perfectionist. Unfortunately, he doesn't yet have a VB for your tranny, but he will likely recommend you get a Lentech VB. You'd be looking at about the same price as the Baumann tranny when you figure in the VB, and you'll probably get more personalized service as well as the best product available. Not knocking Baumann, but Gregg's track record speaks for itself.

I have a '95 F150 w/ a 4R70W that is having problems. If and when the time comes, Gregg will get my $$ without hesitation.
