ok so i have a 97 f250 HD 4x4 and ive been having this problem when i cold start it sometimes it will kinda skip or jump a few times before firing up but never takes longer than say 5 seconds to fire up. and for the first minute or so it will blow blue smoke out and if i give it some throttle it will run rough and chug and blow blue smoke everywhere but after it runs for just alittle bit it will seem to run fine except ive noticed that it sounds like there is a slight miss that i can hear in the background. i dont think its injector o-rings because ive been keeping an eye on my oil and having been losing any. i also just recently put a new cps sensor into it. i thought it might have been the icp sensor but i tried unplugging it and then starting it and it doesnt sound any better, still has that slight miss. anybody have any ideas as to what it could be?
Check the under valve cover harness plugs for burnt pins. Sounds like you have some bad glow plugs and possibly burnt wiring and pins in the valve cover gaskets.
How hard is it to do that? Sorry new guy to diesels.
Not hard to check the plugs. There are two plugs on each valve cover gasket. Unplug each one and look at the holes in the end of the plugs, and the pins in the gasket where the plugs were. The two outside pins on each plug are the for the glow plugs. See if they look burnt and melted.
Well just took a peek at all four valve cover connectors and all the pins look good so that rules that out. One thing though I noticed some oil on the connectors, I presume this is normal?
