I have been looking for an excursion for awhile debating if I should go diesel or gas well I decided I would go gas and not diesel why? Cause I A. Can't afford a 7.3 in my area way to high in price and B. I don't want the maintenance of one. Reason why I want an excursion? I always loved them never drove one don't care on the mpg and I will be towing a 2500lbs horse trailer fully loaded will come in around 7500lbs. Anyways I ended up finding a 2000 ford excursion xlt v10 6.8l with around 150k miles fully loaded top to bottom has every option besides sunroof which doesn't matter to me. My question is would should I look for am I getting myself into something I should stay away? What are the pros and cons ? I've read threads about spitting plugs how true is that? Can I do something like bullet proofing the engine ? Ect. What can I do to give it more power better mpg ect any aftermarket mods that are great? I'd like to know it all before I take the big leap or should I not take the leap?
