The dealer I bought it from said that they reset codes and many have not returned after 200 miles of driving. They are giving me an egr valve, fan clutch and an injector to replace the faulty ones. I simply cannot believe it. A dealership GIVING parts to a customer for a vehicle that they sold.
I'm starting the repair process in the morning tomorrow. I've got several parts from the dealer (surprisingly at no cost to me) and have to get a couple more things. I have the following;
Oil cooler kit
EGR valve
Fan Clutch assembly
1 remanufactured fuel injector to replace a failing #4 injector
Turbo rebuild kit
Stuck turbo vanes. It appears that the unison ring has never worked. The slot is worn in only one place and there was a burr on the ring causing it to bind. I've blended the burr and got the ring functioning properly.
Turbo shaft bearings worn. It has radial play but has not contacted the housing yet.
EGR valve stuck/not functional.
Fan clutch slip ring has no continuity.
Oil cooler nearly completely clogged. I put water in one side, nothing comes out the other.
Turbo drain tube o-rings leaking.
Accessory drive belt torn in multiple places.
On a lighter note, #4 injector may be good after all.
Installed the new oil cooler today. The unit I removed was some chinese made joint that was completely clogged. Should I have filled the pocket the oil cooler fits into with oil prior to installing it? The ford manual was unclear about that.
Tomorrow will be the installation of the intake manifold and removal of the heavily corroded battery cable. After that, I'm waiting on parts to rebuild the turbo and install the fan clutch.
My ECT will get up to 208-211 under heavy acceleration or traveling up a steep hill. It does come back down, but it varies on what it comes down to. I've seen 188, 190, 195..... Oh yeah, and my deltas are worse than before. I flushed the system through my with vc-9 and distilled water before the replacement and used fleet charge coolant afterwards. I see anywhere from 7 to 20 degree differences. I'm going to cold soak and look at the temp sensors later.
If you found the oil cooler plugged, it's best to find out what caused the foul and if the cause was addressed/ repaired.
Other than that, your temps seem normal under the conditions noted.
