Rear differential play

I went to check my u-joints today, and there's a little slop at the back u-joint. What concerns me is the play at the input of the differential. Is there supposed to be play in the differential input or, should it be solid? If there is supposed to be no play, what could be some of the causes for this issue? I have noticed a slight vibration on deceleration from highway speeds. That could be due to the bad u-joint, I believe.

Yes some play in the rear diff is normal if by that you mean the input will turn back and forth a little with no resistance, it should not move up and down or side to side however and but any play in the U-jounts is bad.
