Rear End Vibes?

My 82 302 f-150 has a hard vibration sometimes on takeoff, i can't describe it accurately enough but it vibrates so hard that it causes the entire truck to rattle. this isn't an always thing but it worries me. Any ideas?

Desperado, Is it a stick shift? If so it could be clutch chatter I had one that only did it sometimes. at close to the same rpm if I took off real easy it wouldn't do it or if I took off real hard it wouldn't do it only at that certain rpm. John

Its an AOD... still i wonder whats causing this, because it doesn't just shake a little, it vibrates very very harshly.

Check your U-joints at the rear of the driveshaft (at the diff.). They could be as dry as popcorn farts and seizing up. Also check the "U" bolts that hold the rear axle to the springs and tighten or replace as necessary. Good luck.

While you're checking your U-joints, see if there's any play in the yoke. If so, you'll have to drop the drive shaft at the yoke and tighten the big nut that holds it in. I've had to tighten the yoke on my '85 twice since I bought it in '93.
