351 engine sudden knocking
Razer70....Hey guys,My 88 ford econoline was running just fine on my way home it a\started making a knocking or a lifter ticking noise on the passengers side of engine. Engine would not idle like it was and bogging a little.Sound likes it's coming from the valve cover but I haven't pinpointed exactly yet.Oil was just changed 1,000 miles ago synthetic 10-30 .I'ts fuel injected looks like a fun job just to take off the fuel injection intake just to get to the valve cover.Any tips on how I should go about it would be helpful. and are these 351 windsor engines notorious for any type of failure in this area.Thks razer...

sounds like a camshaft going south. kinda common for the 80's trucks. do a compression test. its a good start. could also pull a valve cover and crank the engine. this way you could see how much the valves are opening. also do an oil pressure test. maybe the pump is worn and the lifters are not pumping up. many possibilities here.
