upon reading tstones thread it made me think of my ordeal when my 79 s/c got stolen and what i did a number of years ago to keep the punks from taking my ride the things i did may just slow down those people enough to get frustrated and leave things alone
1st off they removed the ignition switch pigtail from the back, plugged into their own switch with a matched key and walla their "gone in 60 seconds"
fixed that with a plate that covers this area and is screwed to the dash so the pigtail is protected from being pulled out
i also taped a few razer blades to the plate so its gonna hurt and be messy
if you fumble around in the dark[extream? yes but its my investment thats at risk here
[2] locking hood release was the best thing i did they cant get at any thing cut the alarm horn, battery cables ect.
[3] secret ignition cutoff switch/gas selonoid switch
other than towing the truck they are not going to drive it very easy with out some time to figure out how to start it
any one have any other ideas?
I have a pushbutton start wired into my ignition system, but you still need the key to start it because they way I have it wired. I also have a locking hood latch. That is about everything I could do to protect my girl. But with 7 years in Loss Prevention I know that if someone wants something bad enough......they will find a way!
Just being a '73-'79 will stop the young dumb punks running around today, al though these trucks are the best made best looking trucks Ford ever made, these kids don't know that.
My truck is sitting with no carb, good luck stealing it...
Besides my truck is a pain to start...and it has no mufflers so it's loud.
If it is a 4x4, one thing my Dad does, is to shift the transfer case into Neutral when he parks his truck for the night. This will buy you a few extra moments of time if they get past your first lines of defense and actually get the truck started. He also removes the Ignition Coil wire from the coil to the center post of the distributor cap and has a two hidden kill switches. You can never be two cautious.
barbed wire and my 16 gauge... and it helps that my trucks in a million peices right now... but were can i get a lockable hood latch? and think it would be worth it putting a battery switch under the seat? and i like the idea of the plate and razor blades.
I was wondering about that lockable hood latch too, any way I could modify the stock one? I'd like to get one of those motion sensors lights to light up the spot where it gets parked too, it might help.
Miot sorry to bring about old memories but to answer some of those msgs.
76f350spercamprspeal obviously someone wants a 73-79 pickup becuase both myself and miot both had our trucks stolen hense the posts. Second is loud exhaust dosent mean squat because its the roll down the driveway then start that dosent wake u up and third the coil wire trick only works when its a clear cool night and u actually feel like poping the hood and removing it. The best bet is to have an automatic style cutout for fuel ignition or bat power. I obviously didnt pull my coil wire that ****ty night and yes i had my 12 gauge leaned against the head board but that only works if your awake.!!!!!!

I have a locking hood latch out of an Econoline van mounted in my truck... The cable for the latch is too short to mount the T-handle on the dash so I have it resting up under the dash, on top of the steering column - conveniently hidden... I've been meaning to find some place under there somewhere to mount the handle, just haven't done it yet...

There are two or three of them on ebay right now. Put the battery switch under the hood(with the lockable hood latch) and alarm the hood.
