Folks,
Does anybody have a PPG or Dupont paint code for '59 paint code "D". It looks like 'Indian Turquoise', but I could be wrong.
Thanks for any info,
Brett
Well, so you wound up with a reply before I could get my book open! I'm trying to be kool and look like I know something. Anyway, yes, it's Indian Turquoise....a very kool kolor! Mine is that now, but is originally Goldenrod yellow......I...I just can't bring myself to do yellow again!
I prefer PPG products. Not because it's any better or worse than Dupont....it's what I grew up on.....(add Igor voice) and the fumes smell goooooddd toooooo!
Kenny,
When dinosaurs ruled the earth and I was still doing bodywork for a living, PPG's automotive refinishing product line was marketed under the brand name 'Ditzler'. That's the name that will be at the top of the chip pages that are commonly for sale at swap meets in the literature section.
At the top they will have car year and manufacturer. Dupont is another common brand. Other vintage chips may be from manufacturers such as Sherwin Williams (including Rodgers, ACME, Martin-Senour), Nason (aquired by Dupont), R-M (Rinshed-Mason, Inmont Corporation). etc. Next to the chip they have a vendor-specific paint code for your jobber to use to mix up a batch. These numbers are a great starting point. Example off web:
In the short term, I need to do some preservation work. My truck is currently burgundy w/red interior. I'm leaning towards 'Indian Turquoise', but it is such a radical change in character for the truck I need to get some mixed up to envision it this way. I loved PPG's DP40 epoxy primer, K36 urethane surfacer, and Deltron urethane topcoat. I don't have a clue what to use today.
Thanks,
Brett
PS. Sixoh, there is a 'Goldenrod Yellow' truck not far from work. I like it.
Can anybody make out the PPG/Ditzler numbers for 'Indian Turquoise' and 'Colonial white' on this web site? http://www.autocolorlibrary.com/cgi-...arch/search.pl
It looks like '42256' or '42156' for 'Indian Turquoise' and '8103' for 'Colonial White'.
Anbody see it better?
Thanks,
Brett
