Longtime lurker here......I was hoping anyone out there might have an idea of what's wrong with my truck.......
What happens is when I go to drive my truck, it sputters, bucks, stalls and then dies while in drive and while pressing the gas pedal (it is an e4od). However, it idles and revs fine while in park and reverse. Now I know the front tank fuel pump is going bad and I have been limping it on the rear tank but I am able to switch and use both tanks. Also, its not throwing any codes that could hint to what it could be.
Could it be the rear tanks pump going out as well?
Or is it something to do with the engine?
Any help would be awesome and well received. Thanks.
Second, check fuel pressure. If you know that it idles and revs ok in park, but sputters and bucks in drive or reverse then that tells you that it may only have enough fuel for the beginning but not enough for load on the engine.
I'm with Timbersteel on this one. A code check is free. You can rent a fuel pressure tester from many part stores then get your money back when you return it.
If the code check passes and the fuel pressure is good at idle and load/WOT then you need to look at the ignition components as Step 3.
Check the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator for leaks. Also check the fuel pressure regulator function. The fuel pressure regulator maintains the required pressure under varying loads.
Thank you for the tips and suggestions.......but I believe I found the culprit....... My galdern FLOORMAT!!!!!!!
I was looking underneath the dash for my power steering pressure switch out of curiosity.... I innocently moved my floor mat back to where its supposed to be......problem went away, road tested it, no issues found.

Again thanks for the info and keep truckin'!
I am glad to see you found a problem but I have never heard of a displaced floormat causing bucking/sputtering/etc.
I hope your issue remains at bay. Thanks for the reply back!
So.... I cried wolf.......it happened again today, but after I was able to get it back into the driveway, I let it set for about 45mins to an hour and it went back to normal.
So for now, I'll be following you guys' tips and suggestions alongside checking my inertia switch.

Intermittent problems are the worst...Let the computer tell you what the issue is with a simple code check and tell us what you find.
