hey all got a problem, and first would like to say out the gate that the trans fluid level is perfect and the fluid doesnt smell burnt.
my 92 f150 4.9 e40d stalls sometimes when it is shifted from park to reverse, it hasnt done it in drive that i can remember but for sure has done it multiple times in reverse. the only way i can describe it is its like driving a manual in 3rd gear instead of first and stalling the engine, the engine fires right back up like it never missed a beat after it does stall.
i have noticed it seems to do it more often if the steering wheel is turned or i am just beginning to turn the steering wheel as it rolls back as it shifts.
i checked the codes about a month ago via paperclip method and there was i believe a psom code (thanks to subford for picking apart the flashing light sequences) and an emissions part that was out of wack but that was it. have the actual code reader ordered from amazon prime that will hopefully get here saturday as well as the optional cord extension. under recomendation from other threads, this is the one i ordered.
UPDATE: got the code scanner, engine off is 111 for a systems pass, cm is a code with the vss, and engine running is i want to say 634 for manual lever out of expected range or something like that but i did the engine running test 3 times and it never came back, last three times i got a 6 for cylinders, code 10 prompting me to turn wheel and release, floor it, hit the brakes and click overdrive off and on, then it gave me 111 for system pass.
i have noticed that it only rarely does it when shifting to drive, and more often than ( and its doing it more often as time goes on) when shifting in reverse and turning the wheel like when you are backing out of a spot.
anyone have any ideas? trans issue, engine issue or power steering issue?
For code 634 I would try cleaning the connections on the transmission first.... Make sure the wires are in good shape ect...
Then I would
replace the range sensor on the driver side of the Transmission....Neutral Safety switch or Manual lever position sensor or what ever it is called if cleaning the connections don't help.
Other then that I never had that issue before. Sorry I could not help
You're transmission filter probably fell off and is laying in the pan... put it back together with some safety wire or make a clip to hold it where it belongs and it'll be good as new.
