Code Reader

Would someone please tell me why, when doing a KOER test on my 98 3.0 Ranger, my code reader requires that the steering wheel be turned 1/2 turn to the right?

What do the instructions say its checking when it asks that you do the maneuver????
Maybe to check the power steering pressure switch & or maybe the IAC ability to control idle speed when the power steering pump loads the engine. What message, or code does it give you if you ignore the instructions????

It instructs me to start the engine and then to turn the wheel 1/2 turn to the right. I don't know what code it would give because I didn't ignore it. My truck didn't have a CEL, I was just playing with my code reader. I will try it again sometime and try it w/o turning the wheel and see what it does. I'm just confused as to what turning the wheel does to anything.
