So I've been fighting getting this window thats 1/3 of the way Down, up for the last hour. The drivers door switch will move it down, the switch on the rear door won't work at all, what's really weird is when I hit the button up on the drivers door, the stereo turns off. Electrical stuff isn't really something I'm super confident about. Just wondering if someone had an idea what I could do to 1. Get the window up and 2. Get my stereo to stop turning off (I'm not seeing and frayed, disconnected, or loose wires) and 3. to test the switches.
*update: I ran a conductivity test (cheap 12v light type) on the drivers door, the negative side gives me power, nothing on the positive side. The rear gives me nothing at all.
For # 1 pull the door panel and use a hot wire and ground from a battery to operate the window motor
# 2 find the short
#3 use a multimeter to test the wire at the widow motor
I believe it will, as the power to all switches runs threw the drivers side switch. The 85 in my signature, had no power to the passenger side switch. After replacing the drivers side window switch, power was restored to the passenger side, and all was good.
So after messing with it a little more the rear passenger window won't work either, up or down. I'm still not sure why the stereo turns off when I press the rear drivers side window button up, I can't find any disconnected wires anywhere. I traced the wires leaving the drivers door switch all the way back to the rear drivers switch and found nothing loose or disconnected. For anyone who has taken their switches apart the gray and orange wire that is connected to the UP switch isn't working, I get no power out if it. But the one below it (I forget the colors) gives me power, and rolls the window down. I just can't figure out how this would effect the stereo at all. Thatsnwhat has me scratching my head.
Its usually the master switch or the wires get cut where they come out of the door pillar at the floor. My passenger side rear window will not work at all so I'm trying to figure that one out.
My passager rear isn't working either, but both front windows work with no issues. I ordered a replacement master switch and I'll see if that fixes it. Like I said I found no wires that frayed, disconnected or loose. The Moreno think about it the stereo may actually be the issue. This truck was broken into a few years ago and ever since there has been issues of speakers going in and out of working. Something tells me that there's some bad connections, plus the drivers door speaker cone was actually torn so looks like I'll be replacing some speakers and putting in a newer head unit that I can plug my phone or iPod into.
