How many of you have pulled the engine on your truck? I have the 6.6L 400 with the C6 transmission. What size engine hoist did you use? What size would be good for my engine? I do not really want to do this but I need to clean the engine and the engine bay, repair my firewall because I got leaks coming into the cab.......etc. So any info or tips you guys have would be great
I'm not sure I would pull the engine unless you simply can't reach the firewall damage. It's a lot of weight and I prefer to work smarter not harder. Is it impossible to get to?
There are many post about pulling the engine on here,do a search and you will see. Now,pulling the engine is the best way to clean and fix your leaks,i like that idea but, pull the front clip off to make it all easier, any cherry picker will work,if you were close id lend you mine.
Get yourself one of these, $220 + 30 for the leveller, it will more than pay for itself and it will take off the clip and remove the motor and it isnt beer powered.
I've removed and replaced front clips, swapped cabs, boxes, 8'x12' steel decks all after having a COPD related stroke without a hoist (look in my library for proof). This will make my work easier in the future and will do the same for you healthy, ha ha ha ha ha, guys.
lots of ways to do it. Privateer's way is the more correct way, but whichever way you decide.........buy a loadleveler. After pulling my motor with straps and a excavator I went and got a load leveler for the install from harbor freight. Even if used once it should pay for itself in the pain and suffering.
HEY!!, I've done that act. It was with a 73/75 chev 1 ton dually with a 350 4 spd, Had tree, come-a-long and a 2x6 to stop the limb from breaking off. Had to use a 4x4 post to move the truck back, load up next motor and push truck back into place. Had stopped drinking by then by a few years, pretty sure that I was still free basing though, it worked LOL, could do it again in a pinch. I know of a few garages that have sway back roofs and broken trusses. Bet that motor spins like a top when it gets in the air.
Thanks guys for all the that. I will for sure get the leveler to go along with the hoist. Going to be doing this in June. I dont really want to pull it but I need to go through it and fix leaks and everything else that is going on there. Plus I need to work on the transmission fix the firewall and clean up the bay.
Yeah I got plenty of all that stuff. oh and rewiring some things too. the guy that i bought it from used speaker wire to wire things. at least it works.
