Ok, so this afternoon the paddle in the shift column that locks the shifter from moving in park fell out of my 2003 F150. I came home, lower the steering column, and finally got it replaced. The truck started and shifted just fine. I then proceeded to reinstall the steering column and trim pieces. Got everything installed and now it won't start. The odometer is blank, the overdrive light on the shifter is on, and it does crank. It simply will not start up. Additionally, the 4x4 light is on and when I roll it back in reverse it does sound like the transfer case is engaged. I tried swapping relays as mentioned elsewhere, but to no avail. What could I be missing? I really need this fixed quick as it is my only transportation. Thanks in advance!
I assume it has PATS. There is a module ...it is square...with four wires. Those wires run back to a connector....it should be white. Make sure that connection is plugged in. That module is mounted inside the column near the key switch.
Here is an update. I had a blown fuse (number 31 I believe) which was driving the majority of the issues I was experiencing. However, now I go to start it and it cranks, but the theft light is flashing. This definitely indicates a PATS issue. How can these be reset? I did not replace any of the components, but did disconnect the transceiver to lower the steering column. I made sure all connections were nice and tight.
I disconnected the negative battery cable overnight and tried it again this morning, still nothing. Unfortunately I do not have an alternate key. Would a locksmith be able to reprogram a new key?

Yes...most have the machine to access the ECM to do that. Most are mobile and can do it on site. Don't know if that is your problem or not. Are you sure those 4 wires from that PATS module are solid all the way from the module back to where it plugs in?
I am almost certain, but will verify again this afternoon. I guess if they are connected I will call a locksmith. Thanks!

'Just to clarify what I mean......They can cut and code the transponder key, but in no way can they solve a PATS issue if the issue is anything other than the other transponder key was not working. You may want to call a dealership and run this past them....they can cut and code a key and reflash if needed. Most will give you some idea over the phone how much it will be.
Is the module you are referring to the transceiver that is mounted on the ignition lock cylinder? I also ran the diagnostics on the console and got DTC9681 and the theft light blinked code 22.

Yes....IIRC it has 4-wires....orange...black..blue..white..9681 is a transceiver code...check the 4 wires coming out from it all the way to the white plug, then on the other side of it as far as you can. Make sure nothing is loose, broken, pinched. Make sure you did not crack the transceiver somehow. It's not giving the ECM a go ahead when you crank it....for some reason....key (not likely)...faulty unit or wiring. Injectors will not fire ....that is why a no start. Let me know how this comes out....good luck.
Spotty you were spot on! I left work early to spend some time on this and within 5 minutes noticed that 2 wires on the other side of the transceiver plug were broken. I used a couple of butt connectors and some electrical tape and now my beast is ready for the trail again! Thank you for all your help!
