I have a 2002 ford excursion. I know they have cali emissions. It runs fine then suddenly dies while driving. We've replaced the glow plug switch and relay. Neither one fixed the problem. we washed the motor a while back and it fried the programmer wiring. Wondering if that has anything to do with it. Any help would be great
Not sure what you mean by glowplug switch and relay. I believe excursions have the GPCM
like the Cali trucks do. Maybe the relay you are referring to is for the air intake heater, AIH but I don't know if EX's have that or not
Yeah, I'm confused too? All Excursions have GPCM (not relay) and that is what your code is. That would have nothing to do with stalling... And what is programmer wiring? I (aggressively) wash these engines all the time!!
More info would make it easier to help. Does it stall at a given time (coasting to a stop, when downshifting, etc...).

Yep, they have the AIH as well.

I'm with you guys. This trouble code is something different that the symptoms he is experiencing. P0683 might give it trouble starting but wouldn't kill it after it's running.
P0683 Glow Plug Control Module to PCM Communication Circuit
I believe this code refers to PCM PIN #8 (Comm from the GPCM to the PCM)
