Hi, i drive an 06 f350 with a 6.0 diesel. My truck has quit on me twice in two months. It lost power then stalled and would not restart. I had just changed fuel filters but checked them anyway to see if they were plugged. They looked clean so i put them back in and the truck fired up. It ran good then two months later it did the same thing. I noticed i could not hear the fuel pump so i pulled the cap off if the top fuel filter to see if there was fuel in it, and heard air being sucked in (or pushed out?) as i loosened the cap. I put the cap back on then turned the key and i could hear the fuel pump working. I waited for glow plugs and it fired up.
Is my engine getting vapor locked, or sucking air? If so then why would it only happen every now and then instead of continuously?
Inspect the fill tube? has anybody ever dropped the tank for any reason there is a gasket on the top of the tank, Or the Water separator allen nut is not tight. Just a few Guess's
I will check out the water seperator. Im just not sure if it is sucking air in the lines is the problem or if its not venting. Im almost certain it was sucking air in as i loosened the top fuel filter cap. I dont no why that would be
Have you Installed the Blue Spring kit Yet ? may want to do a Fuel pressure test this would tell you where if any air is sux or pushing out , Bad news for the Injectors .
It was never overheating. I got the delete kit put in because the egr cooler was starting to leak. Im not sure if the oil cooler was replaced. If its something required when installing the delete kit then im sure it was done. But im not having any trouble with it. The problem im having happened before and after the kit was installed
Are you using any fuel additive like Howes, Diesel kleen, Stanadyne If your getting fuel at a Non high recover filling station chances are Algae growth has started in the HFCM , when you pulled the Lower HFCM filter what did you see ? are you pumping any Bio fuel?
No additives. I use the same fuel as everyone in town ( only one place ) and its used in most of the heavy equipment around here. Nobody else has problems with it. The top o ring was good. I havent pulled the bottom yet but will in the morning. Im wondering why pulling the top filter cap off would solve the problem though and the truck starts and runs fine?
Like all the others.I say check the fuel pressure first.
The next thing to check is the tank screen, So you will
have to get at the top of the tank and remove the sender.
Look at the screen and also see how the little nipple thing
on the pipe looks on the sender. It's a one way valve to let
any fuel that the pump sends back to the tank flow back in
without allowing air to come back into the pump. It should
be soft and not hard. If you find the screen plugged up then
you want to clean the tank out and get any gunk out of it.
Ok thanks. Filters are factory from the dealership. I will get the fuel pressure tested. We have a fleet of ford trucks up here in the oil patch. I no all the gas jobs have venting problems due to the amount of mud we go through. I have a gut feeling the tank needs to be dropped but i will have it looked at by the local certified ford mechanic when hes back from holidays. Im gonna check bottom filter today and will post the problem once the mechanic has a go at it. Thanks
