I have a great looking old Cadallic oil filter that I would like to fit on the 350 crate engine in my 1953 Ford truck build. The Cadallic breather is the old oil type. It is also narrower than the 4 barrel carburetor on the motor. I would like to use Has anyone modified one of these to adapt to the newer carburaetor ? If so, what changes? Did you keep the oil filtering part or change entirely to new air cleaner? I would like any ideas or pictures of what you did. Thanks again to all the ford truck friends. psmith1951
I am one of those that believe in the idea of never decreasing the size of the intake throat. Less air-less performance and all the associated issues.
That said, any good sheet metal shop should be able to do a nice job for you. Were it me wanting to go in that direction, I'd modify it so the appearance remained but the filter was a K&N or similar. If you have to cut the base anyway, might as well spend a few extra dollars and do a really unique job of it.
BTW, you may want to ensure that Caddie cleaner isn't something very rare and hard to come by before cutting.
Thanks for the suggestion. I want to keep the look and the old oil type filtration. My concerns were the about limiting the air intake due to the narrow opening. I am going to find a sheet metal shop that can help with crating the lager opening. The Cadillac breathers add such a hotrod charm to an engine. psmith1951
