Getting ready to install a replacement 4R70W trans in my 2000 F150 sport 4X4. I've been doing a lot of reading and have never seen anyone mention Gasket Sealer when replacing the tranny filter and pan. I'll use the factory double ribbed Gasket because it's in really good shape and is doubled ribbed but I am old school and trying to resist a minimal app. of gasket sealer. I'm just wondering why this is never mentioned? Pan and base are eat off them clean. Are these gaskets that good.? I'm just a curious guy. Thanks Folks. I always appreciate your knowledge and opinion.. W.L...
NEW factory gaskets don't need sealer. When I am REUSING a rubber gasket, I make sure it is pliable and flex... Then I put a VERY LIGHT WIPE of RTV over the surface.. Probably not necessary, but like you said, im old school.
