Has anyone tried that silicone gasket maker stuff as opposed to actually buying the gaskets? How does it work. Sorry couldnt think of a better forum and this just happens to be my "home" forum.
It depends, The factory now uses black goo for geskets like oilpan and valve covers. I prefer regular gaskets with just a thin layer of gasket sealer on one side. Just enough to hold the gasket in place. Plus sometimes you get lucky and can reuse most gaskets this way if they are fairly new.
A good article in Hot Rod Magazine, I think Nov or Oct issue.
They talk about gaskets, sealers and the form-a-gasket stuff. Pros and cons and where to use stuff. Apparently a lot of changes in technology in the past 10 years or so.
