1981 Flareside bed

Happy Weekend everyone! I have a 1981 Flareside bed from a truck that my son totaled. We are wondering if that bed will fit on a 1995 ext cab shortbed that we now have. Both are 2WD, manual trans trucks.

Thanks
Jeff

I doubt it would fit on a Chevy very easily. But if your '95 is a SuperCab, then I think it should be a direct swap.

I believe "extended-cab" would be an adjective whereas "SuperCab" a noun.

In Pennsylvania English quite possibly! LOL Brad, bite your tongue!! (Duramax and F250 are both proper nouns)

(I can't talk bad about PA since U of PA just awarded my daughter a $350K PhD scholarship and a stipend more than I make working part time! )

Actually, while that's not wrong, it's not completely correct either. In fact, both terms are adjectives. The adjective "SuperCab" modifies the noun "pickup" so that it describes a Ford truck with a less-than-full-size seat behind the front seats. Likewise, the adjective "Extended-cab" modifies the same noun ("pickup") so that it describes a Chevy truck with a similar cab configuration.

But like many adjectives, both "Extended cab" and "SuperCab may also be used as nouns. In that usage "SuperCab" on it's own has the same meaning as "SuperCab pickup", which is to say, a Ford pickup with a small back seat. Similarly "Extended cab" has the same meaning as "Extended cab pickup".

So it turns out that both "SuperCab" and Extended cab are both nouns and adjectives.

And while some people might find the grammar lesson interesting, the point remains that "Extended cab" is a GM-specific term and SuperCab is Ford-specific.

IDK 'bout that as I don't think I've ever seen a Chevy with the emblem "Extended Cab" on it. I quite possibly could be wrong though as I am not a GM fan. Either way this has been an interesting topic from a simple question. (and I certainly do not have the intellect of my daughter!)

Oh, and you started it with the

Edit: From NADA .........in a nod to better passenger comfort, the Extended Cab Silverado pickup features large rear-access doors capable of........
You know your GM's better than me!

"Extended cab" has sort of come to be a "generic" term, much like "Kleenex" is a generic term for facial tissue. But "Kleenex" is actually a brand name that is only "generic" because Kimberly-Clark is the number one supplier of facial tissue. Some of us on this Ford site aren't content to let it be implied that Chevy is the number one truck manufacturer, so we try to resist that implication.

To be fair, "SuperCab" sounds more like a trade-marked type of name while "Extended cab" does sound more generic. But the term "Extended cab" was never applied to Fords or Dodges until after Chevy used it to describe their version when it came out in about 1987 (Ford SuperCabs had been around since about 1974 and Dodge Club Cabs about a year before that).

And I think you're right that Chevy has never put an "Extended cab" badge on a truck, but then again, I'm not sure Ford has ever put a "SuperCab" badge on a truck either.

Don't think I have either. In both cases they are listed as models on NADA.

And FORD is the #1 !

Ford had Supercab on the rear side windows in the 70s.

Also since Ford made Supercabs almost 20 years before chevy came out with the Extended cab in 88 and also since Ford Still makes Supercabs while Chevy No longer makes Extended cabs I think it is only fair to give credit where credit is due and call a SUPER cab a SUPER cab

It'll fit, but the rear fender lines will be wrong.

The simple solution is to swap the front clip for a bullnose clip... But then again I'm partial.
