Sunvisor Install Question...

I just bought a used Lund sunvisor for my F350. IIRC Lund used to furnish a roll of 3M double sided tape to use between the visor and the cab … maybe because of noise isolation and to help keep water leaks to a minimum.

I installed dozens of these visors when I was working at my local Ford store but my memory is just a little fuzzy. I believe I used the tape in strips making sure they were positioned under the mounting holes and along the areas where the visor touches the paint finish.

I also use a silicone sealant to help keep the interior dry.

Sound right?

I have installed at least 100 of those visors.

NEVER did they come with double sided tape.

Line the visor up on the truck and triple check that is where you want it. The drill 2 center holes and put in 2 screws to locate the visor. The work your way out from middle to outside drilling and screwing.

After you have it all screwed down, REMOVE the visor.

Blow all the metal shavings off the truck and visor.

Put a dab of silicon on each hole in the roof.

Set the visor on and DO NOT MOVE IT.

Put each screw IN the silicone tub and thread into each hole.

I have been doing it this way for 20+ years without one issue and I still have one truck from 98 that I did this way and it is LEAK and RUST free

Maybe they don't include the tape now but they did back in the 90's… at least we got it with the parts. It was the grey sticky stuff with the red plastic that peeled off the tape.

I've done as many as you have Brad… when our shop quit doing the installs I took on the job since I was selling a lot of accessories with those trucks back then… running boards, visors, racer backs, deer guards, bug shields etc. Too much $$$ to be made to let other shops make the sale.

I'll just install it like I've done before…

Any suggestions for what to use for new screws that looks right? I plan on pulling the vision off a parts truck that's blue and refinish the vision to match my project truck. Not sure I can pull the originals off without damaging the screw.

Plasti-dip a pair of channel lock jaws to remove the plastic caps.

remove screws and throw in trash.

Then buy new STAINLESS screws

Definitely planned on stainless steel. Didn't know there were caps on there, I honestly hadn't looked that much at it since I bought the truck as it's still a distant line on my to do list.
Thanks brad

i have installed over 30.
the first one was put on in 86, the last was put on in 97. none came with 2 sided tape, all were installed just as Brad described.

the only thing i did differently was drilling a 1/4 inch hole in each of the "pockets" in the center of the visor to drain off rain water. this way the first time you hit the brakes you do not get a quart of water splashing out of them onto the windshield.
