Please bear with me as I try to describe where the leak is. Laying under the 82 bronco, oil pan is right above, move staright back from it torward rear of truck, come to what I think is the bottom of my transmission (the bottom front of the transmission??), 2 bolts on driver side, 2bolts on passnger side holding two metal plates together (??) the exaust pipe crosses right by this, anyhow as far as I can figure it looks like the oil is dripping down from where these two "plates" are bolted together? Is there something there or in this area, such as a gasket that could be the problem and that I can replace?? Its not a big leak but it bugs me and I want to fix it. Thanks for any suggestions.
Sure does sound like the rear main seal. To replace it is either pull engine, or drop tranny.
One thing to try to isolate the leak. Wash the engine completly, very clean, no dirt or oil or grease.
Then dust baby powder all over it top bottom and sides. KEEP it OUT of the air intake!!!! Drive around a while. CHeck where the oil stains are. You might have a leaking valve cover, or intake or PCV.

changing the rear main seal might be much easier with your truck than you think. You might have the 2 peice rear main seal that requires the same as removing the oil pan. sry but i do not have my manual in front of me right now to check. but i am preaty shure that your engine would be a two peice due to the year of the vehicle.
