I have a 1978 F150 with the bigger three speed trans. (Three on the tree)
I believe the trans housing is 9.25? Anyway, it's the larger one of the three speeds.
What year or model of transmissions are compatible for a replacement?
I have a lead on a 68 F100 three speed, but uncertain if it'll work?
1978 F-150 300ci
4x2 three on the tree
Single piece drive shaft
If you have someone do it, make sure they are familiar with them or at least older manual transmissions in general. "I've never done one but how hard could it be..." is not a good response to the question.
I had a Three on a tree - Inline 6, years ago. The Trany went bad and I ended up getting a 4 speed (w/od) out of a mid 80's pickup. Cutting a hole in the floor for the shiftier, Mounting the "hump cover" and moving the lower trany mount off the 3 speed to the 4 speed is the only thing extra I had to do.
